We Look at the Floor Underneath

A new floor can only perform as well as the surface underneath it.

Many Frisco homes have concrete slab foundations. Before installation, we look for uneven areas, cracks, moisture concerns, and other conditions that may need to be addressed before the new flooring goes down.

Clear, Instant Quote

If your slab or subfloor needs preparation, we'll explain what we found and what needs to be done. We'd rather discuss floor preparation before installation than have you discover an unexpected problem after the old flooring has been removed.

Flooring Options for Frisco Homes

All American Flooring offers a range of flooring options for Frisco homeowners, including hardwood, engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, tile, carpet, and laminate.

The best choice depends on the room, how you use it, your design preferences, maintenance expectations, and the condition of the existing floor.

Concrete Slab & Subfloor Preparation in Frisco

This is one of the areas where a flooring installation can go wrong if it isn't checked beforehand.

Many Frisco homes are built over concrete slabs. Over time, slabs can develop high areas, low spots, cracks, or other conditions that affect the installation of a new floor.

We don't simply assume the surface is ready because the existing flooring looks fine.

Before installation, we inspect the floor and determine what preparation is appropriate for the flooring you're installing.

Slab Leveling & Grinding

If we find a high spot in the concrete, it may need to be mechanically ground down.
Low areas may require a suitable leveling material before certain flooring products can be installed.

The amount of preparation depends on the condition of the slab and the requirements of the flooring product.

Moisture Testing

Concrete can look dry on the surface while still having moisture conditions that matter to certain flooring products.

When moisture testing is appropriate, we check the slab before installation and determine whether additional moisture protection or preparation is needed.

Cracks & Other Problem Areas

Not every crack or irregularity is handled the same way.

We look at the condition of the floor, the flooring product being installed, and the manufacturer's requirements before deciding what preparation is necessary.

The goal is simple: don't put a new floor over a problem that should have been addressed first.

If preparation is needed, we'll explain it before the installation begins and include the recommended work in your estimate.

Recent Frisco Flooring Project: Phillips Creek Ranch Whole-Home Flooring Update

A 4,300-Square-Foot Flooring Renovation

One recent project in Phillips Creek Ranch involved replacing approximately 4,300 square feet of designer pick flooring.

The homeowners wanted hardwood downstairs but preferred carpet in the upstairs bedrooms and media room.

For the main living areas, they selected wide plank European white oak engineered hardwood. The natural variation in the wood helped give the connected living spaces a warmer appearance.

Upstairs, they selected stain-resistant Karastan carpet with a 7/16-inch carpet pad.

Using two different flooring products made sense for this particular house. The downstairs areas needed the look and character of hardwood, while the upstairs rooms benefited from the softer feel of carpet.

That's something we discuss with homeowners during the selection process. You don't necessarily need the same flooring throughout the entire house. Different rooms have different needs.
